Thanks for all your positive responses to the tie jacket. Luluna Lesley started this jacket AGES(!) ago and then left it because it was such a challenge to make. One of the things she has really enjoyed about lock down is having the time to creatively experiment without feeling the pressure to make for the festivals. So she was able to pick this project up again and figure out how to finish it. It is made from 35 ties, she wanted to keep the original shape of the ties so you could see what they are within the jacket. This made it a challenge to keep their shape and fit it into the pattern, it was easier to do this with the body of the jacket but trying to figure out how to make the arms was more difficult. Initially she wanted to have the points of the ties sticking up around the top of the sleeve like dinosaur stegs but this proved very difficult to create so she created the sleeve with the points coming down around the wrist instead. She used the classic Victorian 'Leg 'O Mutton' sleeve design because of its large fabric capacity which lent itself to the size of the ties. It's so good to have finished this project which has been on the back burner for a while now, another garment ticked off the list! We've also just been kindly donated some more ties so watch this space for some more tie garments coming soon!
